Newtons’ celebrate 50th


Mr. and Mrs. Harold P. Newton Sr., 260 N. Stonebase Road, Mercer, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a surprise dinner party hosted by their sons and daughters-in-law in Magoffin House, Mercer.

Their sons and spouses are Harold Newton Jr. and Lynn Newton; and Robert and Beverly Newton, all Mercer; Matthew and Yolanda Newton, Cordova, S.C.; and David and Jill Newton, West Middlesex.

The former Laverne Means and Newton were married Dec. 17, 1956, in Unity Presbyterian Church, Greenfield, by the Rev. Robert G.1-4 Freytag.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Newton retired in 1993 after 40 years of employment at the former Sharon Steel Corp.’s Farrell plant.

Mrs. Newton retired in 2001 after 25 years as a baker at Mercer area schools.

Completing the family are 11 grandchildren and an expected great-grandson, soon to be born.
