Frank R. Crash

Greenville native owned auto wrecking business


---- — A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday for Frank R. Crash of 362 Mercer Road, Hempfield Township, and Cherokee Trail, Conneaut Lake. He passed away unexpectedly Thursday (7-25-13) in his residence. He was 76.

Mr. Crash was born Feb. 1, 1937, in Greenville to Carl A. Crash Sr. and Edna M. Fahl Crash.

He was a 1956 graduate of the former Penn High School, Greenville.

Since 1959, he had been the owner and operator of Frank Crash Auto Wrecking, with locations in Greenville and Sharon. During the late 1960s and ’70s, he was the owner of Sloan Supply Co., Greenville.

Mr. Crash belonged to St. Michael’s Church in Greenville.

Frank was a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 145, Greenville; Conneaut Lake Volunteer Fire Department Station 3; and the former Taylor Hose, Meadville.

He was an active owner for many years of Dirt Track Sprint Cars, with legendary driver Lou Blaney as his primary driver. He himself raced snowmobiles during the ’60s and ’70s.

Frank was a longtime sponsor of the Crash Auto Wrecking Women’s Bowling team and was very supportive of Thiel College and Greenville High School, lending vehicles to various events and attending many of their football games throughout the years.

In addition, he was a loyal Note Dame fan and enjoyed the many years of boating and spending time at Conneaut Lake.

He married Carol Lee Redfoot on Feb. 28, 1959; she passed away Dec. 16, 2009.

Surviving are: two daughters, Pam S. Higbee and her husband Mike; and Susan K. Brenneman; and a sister, Nancy J. Crash, all Greenville; two grandchildren, Kristina Higbee and her companion Darrell McKoy, Pittsburgh; and Adam Higbee and his wife Tara, Greenville; and two great-grandchildren, Mia Higbee and Kyle Higbee.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Betty Zane, Peggy Crash and Laura Mae Crash; and two brothers, Ronald Crash and Carl A. “Joe” Crash.
