Closing arguments set in Basilone murder trial
Closing arguments will be made this afternoon as Joshua Stewart's murder trial wraps up.
Stewart, 20 is charged with first-, second- and third degree murder and two counts each of robbery and conspiracy for the Dec. 30, 2011 slaying of Farrell bar-owner William Basilone.
Accused's DNA matches that taken from gray hoodie
DNA samples taken from accused killer Joshua Stewart match samples taken from a gray hooded sweatshirt. believed to be worn by the man who shot and killed Farrell bar owner William Basilone, a DNA expert testified Monday morning during the third day of Stewart's trial on charges he killed Basilone on Dec. 30, 2011.

Two witnesses put suspects in vicinity of bar the night of Basilone shooting
Two witnesses testified Friday that Joshua Stewart was near Basilone's bar on Roemer Boulevard in Farrell on Dec. 30, 2011 - the night bar-owner William Basilone was shot to death outside his bar.
Stewart is charged with first-, second- and third-degree murder and two counts each of robbery and conspiracy for the slaying.
Authorities identify couple killed in Grove City fire
Using dental records, authorities identified the two people killed in a fire Monday in Grove City. The cause and manner of their deaths has not been determined, with toxicology results still to come in, said Mercer County Coroner J. Bradley McGonigle III, who released the names today.
Buhl Park's mom and dad swans killed when hit by car
According to Buhl Park's website, the male and female swans at the park were killed at 5:45 a.m. today by a car as they were crossing Forker Boulevard. Their two cygnets survived, but they are only three months old. Hermitage police have been notified.
Missing man, 46, found dead in woods
State police said late Tuesday night that Douglas John Kerr, 46, of Blossom Court, Coolspring Township was found dead in a wooded area near Shenango Reservoir off state Route 258. The individual was found by state police personnel and was identified as the missing man. Kerr was reported missing on June 3. He was last seen on May 31. Foul play is not suspect at this time. The investigation is ongoing. More details will be released later.
Hermitage man to be charged in Farrell shooting
A 26-year-old Hermitage man is to be arraigned later today on multiple charges, including criminal homicide, in the shooting death of Andrew Walko, 44, of 824 Emerson Ave., Farrell. He was shot around midnight in the 800 block of Emerson Avenue. The Hermitage man was one of three who entered the home of Walko’s stepson on Emerson shortly before the shooting.
UPDATE: Dead woman identified as Jean Black, 56, of Hubbard
The body of a woman recovered by emergency personnel from Shenango River Lake near the Shenango Recreation Area about 11:30 a.m. today has been identified as 56-year-old Jean Black of Hubbard. She had been missing since Wednesday night. In addition to the woman, her two dogs were found dead as well. Authorities speculate she may been walking her dogs when one or both of them ran onto the ice and that she followed.
PNC branch by Walmart in Hermitage robbed
The PNC bank branch on North Hermitage Road by Walmart in Hermitage was robbed this afternoon. Hermitage police alerted other departments to be on the lookout for a male, in his 30s or 40s, about 5-8, clean shaven but with long "shaggy" hair, and glasses,wearing a brown hoodie. The robbery was reported to Mercer County 911 at 2:48 p.m. Tuesday. It's the second time that the PNC branch was robbed in the city in a little more than two weeks. The other robbery was on Jan. 23.
