Published June 27, 2009 07:29 am - PNC Bank said Friday it will close its Farrell National City branch this fall.

National City’s Farrell branch to close in October

PNC Bank said Friday it will close its Farrell National City branch this fall.

The closing, scheduled for October, is the result of a review conducted of all of National City’s offices. Reasons for closing the Farrell branch include a relatively low deposit base and other branches being nearby.

PNC Corp. bought National City in October and is in the process of merging the National City Bank branches into PNC Bank. The National City branches in western Pennsylvania will be renamed PNC Bank in November.

The Farrell branch is located at 713 Sharon-New Castle Road, a block from Farrell High School.

“We still have a strong commitment to the Shenango Valley,’’ said Pat McMahon, a PNC Bank spokesman. “We have offices in Sharon, Sharpsville and two in Hermitage. The Sharon branch is only about 1č miles from the Farrell branch.’’

Branch employees have been notifying customers this week about the closing later this year. McMahon didn’t know the exact number of employees at the branch but said an office of that size generally has about 10 or so workers.

PNC is working to see if those employees can be transferred to another branch or offered a job elsewhere within PNC Bank.
