Strike vote scheduled for Duferco workers
FARRELL — Union workers at Duferco Farrell Corp. are scheduled to take a strike vote on Wednesday.
Members of United Steelworkers Local 1016-03 will vote on whether to authorize a strike. The local represents more than 400 production and maintenance workers at the Farrell steel plant.
Union employees have been working without a contract since April after the previous contract expired. A number of contract sessions have been held between the company and union since then and workers said they’ve been told a number of financial issues have been resolved but that the company hasn’t presented a full contract package to the union leadership.
Company and union officials did not return phone messages left on Monday.
Tractor Supply Co. store now under construction
HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP — Construction is under way on a new Tractor Supply Co. store in Hempfield Township, the company’s 48th Pennsylvania location.
The 19,000-square-foot store at 25 Williamson Road, will have a fenced lot for storage and display of items such as fencing, sprayers and livestock equipment.
Construction began in May. Contractors for the project are David Construction Co. of Hermitage and Monarch Builders of Marion, Ohio. The store is tentatively set to open in November..
Headquartered in Brentwood, Tenn., Tractor Supply is listed on the NASDAQ Stock Exchange as TSCO, and operates more than 791 stores in 43 states.
Tractor Supply Company is the largest retail farm and ranch supply store chain in the United States.
Novocell Semiconductor gets $10,000 grant
HERMITAGE — Novocell Semiconductor, Inc. recently received a $10,000 grant from the Northwest Pennsylvania Keystone Innovation Zone, according to a news release.
Novocell, based in Hermitage, designs and tests computer chips. The grant money will be used to purchase new equipment for testing the functionality and design of the chips.
The new machinery will be automated, which will “speed up what we’ve been doing manually,” said Steve Warner, Novocell’s vice president of sales and marketing.
“One of the issues we have to overcome is computer chips get faster and faster,” Warner said, “and we need the ability to test them at those kinds of speeds.”
Manpower webinar to cover employment law
HERMITAGE — Manpower in Hermitage will host a webinar from noon to 1 p.m. July 30. “Every employment law in 60 minutes or less” will be the topic.
Mark Toth, Manpower’s chief legal officer, will give the latest legal developments.
A summary of all laws applicable to the U.S. workplace, the latest employment law developments and tools and tips to comply with laws will be among the subjects covered.
