Ground could break on an empty Mercer lot by the end of the month to make way for a drive-through pharmacy and other commercial or office buildings.

The site is at South Erie and West Beaver streets, about two blocks south of the 911 Center.

The grassy lot is expected to make way for the Medicine Shoppe, currently on Greenville Road in Coolspring Township. The owners want a 3,000-square-foot building large enough for a drive-through, said leasing agent Frank Rudock.

Rudock, who works for JABE Cos., Carnegie, is hunting for other businesses or offices to move in. “We’re going to have 7,200 square feet to work with for build out for professional office, retail, nail/hair salon, pizza guy, you name it,” he said.

JABE Cos. are purely leasing agents, looking for businesses to fill the space, Rudock said. They work for the property’s developer and future landlord, who he said isn’t interested in public fanfare but is known in the area.

The Medicine Shoppe is expected to move in toward the end of the year, Rudock said. The timing is not firm, but he added, “The project is definitely a go. The land acquisition and so forth, that’s all been closed.”

Rudock said JABE is aiming at businesses who will lease for about five years. He said an analysis in Mercer shows the town has an older demographic but relatively stable market.
