2 electronics recycling events planned to celebrate Earth Day

- — Tri-County CleanWays, in partnership with the Lawrence-Mercer Recycling/Solid Waste Department, has announced two electronics recycling events to mark Earth Day. They are:

• 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 22 in Mercer.

• 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 24 in New Castle.

Items will be accepted by appointment only by calling: 724-658-6925. The program is open to anyone regardless of where they live.

Televisions, computers and accessories (including monitors, towers, hard drives, scanners, printers, mice, keyboards and speakers), cell phones, VCR and DVD players, radios, sweepers, microwaves, and small miscellaneous electronics will be accepted. There is a $20 fee for cars and SUVs. A pickup load of items is $30. Small freon-containing items such as dehumidifiers and window air conditioning units are an extra $20 each. The event is cash only.

The events are the first in a series of electronics collections in 2014.
