JMC brings back Perrine to oversee Sharon Tube brand

SHENANGO VALLEY — A veteran in the pipe and tube world has returned.

JMC Steel Group said Monday its drawn over mandrel tube line will be marketed under the Sharon Tube brand name and that Bill Perrine has been named president of the new division. The new branding and Perrine’s appointment are effective April 1.

Perrine is well known locally for being Sharon Tube Co.’s last chief executive officer and president before retiring in 2007 when Sharon Tube was sold to the Carlyle Group, an investment company which at the time owned Wheatland Tube. What remained of Sharon Tube’s operations was eventually absorbed into Wheatland Tube. The Zekelman family of Canada now owns JMC, which includes Wheatland Tube and the Sharon Tube brand name.

Perrine worked in the pipe and tube industry, mostly at Sharon Tube, for 32 years.

He is a veteran in the true sense of the word as he is retired from the U.S. Army Reserves where he served for a number of years. He also has served on various boards for a number of local organizations and currently is listed on the boards of Penn-Northwest Development Corp. and Sharon Regional Health System.

“The reinstatement of the Sharon Tube brand could not have come at a better time,’’ said Barry Zekelman, CEO of JMC Steel Group in a news releas. “Sharon Tube has always been the recognized quality and service leader in the precision tubing industry. Sharon Tube’s manufacturing facility is the best in not just North America, but the world. Our top-of-the-line equipment will allow for faster order fulfillment as well as the production of the highest-quality precision tubing, made to exact customer tolerances.’’

A tube drawn over mandrel is an industry term generally describing a process that gives a tube more exact dimensions on the inside and outside diameters along with a smoother finish.

JMC Steel Group is the largest independent tubular manufacturer in North America.
