Mercer County’s 10th graders get to attend Career Fair

MERCER COUNTY — Mercer County 10th graders will get the chance to learn about the variety of career possibilities in this area when they attend the Business & Industry Career Fair organized in part by the Shenango Valley Chamber and funded by an OH-Penn Pathways to Competitiveness Grant administered by West Central Job Partnership.

The event will be held March 13 at the Park Inn by Radisson, Shenango Township. More than 800 10th grade students from Farrell, Sharon, West Middlesex, Reynolds, Sharpsville, Commodore Perry, Grove City, Lakeview, Greenville, Mercer, Jamestown, Keystone, Wilmington and Mahoning County Career and Technical Center will have the opportunity to meet face to face with company representatives and representatives from post-secondary schools to learn about careers for both the college and the non-college bound student.

Students will start by hearing nationally recognized keynote speaker Arel Moodie tell them anything is possible with the right amount of commitment.

Moodie is the best-selling author of “Your Starting Point for Student Success’’. He has been a featured speaker at the White House and has been personally acknowledged for his work with youth by President Obama. Moodie was recently chosen by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to sit on the board of a committee to help recent college graduates find employment.

Inc. Magazine called him a “high-energy, motivator’’ and named him to their “30 Under 30 list’’ of top American entrepreneurs under 30 years old joining people like Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook.

Next students will learn job readiness skills by playing “Jobs Jeopardy’’ with a panel of local HR experts reinforcing the correct answers.

The next stop is the business and manufacturers exhibit hall where students will meet representatives from the companies listed below who will tell them about careers with their companies and the skills and education required to attain them.
