Chamberlains honored for 25th

---- — Edward and Jeannie (Bassick) Chamberlain, 40 Kremis Road, Greenville, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Dec. 27, 2009, with a family dinner at Tuscany Square in New Castle.

Having met on a blind date set up by his neighbors, the Chamberlains were married in a candlelight ceremony Dec. 27, 1984, by the Rev. Fr. Desmond McGree at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Greenville.

He is the son of the late William and Gertrude (Wolfe) Chamberlain and the late Elsie (Sanders) Chamberlain and is the adopted son of the late Floyd and Virgina Bortz.

She is the daughter of the late Joseph and Sylvia (Swartz-Huston) Bassick and the granddaughter of the late Jack and Blanche (Swartz) Huston.

Mr. and Mrs. Chamberlain served as chaperones and cooks for St. Michael’s confirmation retreats in the 1980s and 1990s.

He is also a Eucharistic minister at St. Michael’s.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, he served in Germany and South Africa from 1951 through 1955.

Mr. Chamberlain also was an elementary school teacher in North Dakota at Turtle Mt. Indian Reservation on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and then taught school at Running Bird and Black Pipe on Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

In Pennsylvania, he taught vocational agriculture at Butler High School and Reynolds High School in the 1970s.

After teaching, he became a USDA federal meat inspector.

Mrs. Chamberlain retired in 1985 from the Dairy Queen in Greenville after 20 years. She also was a silent partner for a local restaurant.

After retiring, she enjoyed craft shows and flea markets, taking her young son along, for more than 30 years.

She is a self-taught artist, short-story writer and has won top awards for her roses.

Her husband enjoys freezing and canning food from his huge garden and is called the Garlic King for his blue-ribbon garlic.

The couple enjoys traveling and has visited 45 states.

They have a son, Jeff.
