Fundraisers

• A soupfest/Chinese auction to benefit Marty Miller, a 9-year-old fourth-grader at West Middlesex Elementary School, is set for noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Shenango Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars post home, East State Street, Sharon, across from Daffin’s. Forty-two kinds of soup will be served and a 50/50 raffle held.

Marty has three different types of cancer: retinablastoma, melanoma and rhabodomyosarcoma. He was diagnosed when he was 10 months old and continues treatments in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

• A Victorian tea and fashion show is set for Feb. 21 in Stoneboro firehall. Little Miss Manners, presented by Becki Williams, will be 12:30 to 1 p.m. and special guest Gloria Clover, area author, and a display by Lake’s Area Artisan Guild will be 1 to 3 p.m.

Bring or wear your favorite hat. There will be a Chinese auction.

Cost is $10 for adults and $7.50 for ages 10 and younger. No tickets at the door. To purchase tickets, call Lakeview Area Public Library, 724-376-4217 or 724-376-4116.

All proceeds benefit the library.

Special event

• The Shenango Valley Urban League will be hosting a viewing luncheon of the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 20 on the second floor of the Urban League, 601 Indiana Avenue, Farrell. 

Michael L. Wright, president and chief executive officer of the Shenango Valley Urban League, invites the community to sit down together to witness history unfold and share in the harmonious spirit of a renewed beginning in the country.

Seating is limited and participation is by reservation only. Reservations: Erin Houston, education director, 724-981-5310.
