Fundraisers

• A spaghetti dinner benefit for Brittany Hoffman is set for 4 to 7 p.m. April 5 at the Brookfield firehall, state Route 7.
Brittany is a 2005 Brookfield High School graduate who was born with Tetralogy of Fallot, a congenital heart disease. Brittany is in need of two open heart surgeries.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for children 10 and younger. Takeouts available.
There will be a 50/50 raffle and a Chinese auction.
To make a donation, contact Suzanne at 330-540-8334 or go to First National Bank (Brookfield Branch) and donate to the “Brittany Hoffman Benefit” account. Donations can be made at any FNB branch.
• Hartford Fire Association and Burghill Vernon Fire Association hold their monthly pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Burghill firehall, routes 88 and 7 in Vernon Township. Note the change in location.
Cost is $6 for adults; $5 for seniors; $4 for kids ages 5 to 12; and free for children younger than 5.
Breakfast includes pancakes, French toast, eggs and sausage, sausage gravy over biscuits, milk, orange juice, coffee and tea.
Takeouts available.
• Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department holds a stuffed chicken breast or stuffed pork chop dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. April 5 at the township building, 7407 Lamor Road.
Cost is $7.50 for adults, $4 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children younger than 6. Takeouts available.

• Presbyterian women of First Presbyterian Church of Sharon, 600 E. state St., will hold a two-day rummage sale and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 4 and 5.
All items will be half price on April 5. Lunch will be available.
Proceeds will support the work of Presbyterian Women.
• Masury United Methodist Church will hold a roast beef dinner and Chinese auction from 4 to 7 p.m. April 12 at the Brookfield firehall, 774 state Route 7.
The dinner will be served buffet style and takeouts will be available.
Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for ages 3 to 12 and free for children 2 and younger. Tickets available at the door or call the church, 330-448-1643.
• The Mustang Touchdown Club is sponsoring a Chinese auction April 13 in the cafeteria of Mercer High School. Doors open at 1 p.m., with the drawings at 3.
Admission is $3 a person at the door and refreshments will be available. All proceeds will benefit the Mercer football program.  Info: 724-962-0312.
• Sharon Elks Lodge 103 is having a spaghetti dinner to benefit the Greater Pennsylvania Super Kids Soap Box Derby Race to be held June 28 on East State Street, Sharon. The dinner will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. April 6 at Sharon Elks Lodge, 260 Connelly Blvd.
Menu includes spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread, dessert and beverage.
Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children 12 and younger. Proceeds will help defray the cost of the race.

• Presbyterian Women’s Group of Unity Presbyterian Church will hold an indoor yard sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 5. Hot dogs, chips, soft drinks, coffee and pie will be available for lunch. Proceeds will be used to support local and foreign missions.
• The Altar Rosary Society of Our Lady of Fatima Church invites the public to its annual spring card/bingo party April 6 at Fatima Hall, 1225 Union St., Farrell. Doors open at 1 p.m.; lunch served at 2; drawings begin at 3:30.
There will be a money tree, grand raffle and cash raffle and door prize. Tickets will be available at the door for $5.
• The Presbyterian Church of West Middlesex will hold a marketplace and soup, salad and dessert dinner from 3 to 6 p.m. April 5.
The marketplace will be held in the church gym. A wide variety of unique craft and food items prepared by the congregation will be available. At the same time, dinner will be held in the all-purpose room.
Dinner includes soups, salads and desserts. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children and free for children younger than 2.
The event is sponsored by the mission committee as part of the Multiply the Gifts Campaign to raise funds for a mission trip to tornado-devastated Greensburg, Kan.
• Reservations are needed by April 3 for the GFWC Grove City Woman’s Club’s annual fashion show and luncheon, planned for noon April 19 at Legacy Banquet Center. This year’s theme is a “Tribute to Broadway.”
Fashions will be presented by Prime Outlets at Grove City.
Ticket prices are $16 for adults and $10 for children and are available from any club member or by calling 724-458-6169. Deadline for reservations is April 3.
Join us for a pleasant afternoon of good food, friendly company, the newest fashion trends for spring, and door prizes and gifts. Proceeds are used to provide an award to a graduating high school senior and to support local organizations.
• Stony Point Grange will have a reverse raffle and barbecue chicken and beef dinner May 10 at the Reynolds Veterans of Foreign Wars pavilion. Doors and boards open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner beginning at 6:30.
Grand prize is $1,000. Participants must be 18 years or older.

• Sharon High School class of 1968 is planning a 40th class reunion for Aug. 30 and to include other Labor Day weekend activities. • Penn High School class of 1957 meets for dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Italian Home Club, Greenville.
Plans for the picnic reunion in June will be discussed. All class members and guests are welcome.
• Farrell High School class of 1952 gathers for lunch at noon Wednesday in Ferrara Pizza, 1208 Hall Ave., Sharon.
• Sharon High School class of 1957 gathers at 1 p.m. April 3 at Quaker Steak & Lube, Connelly Boulevard, Sharon.
• Shenango Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1338 will hold nomination for post officers at 7 p.m. April 1 at the post home.
Elections will be at 7 p.m. May 6.
• Sharon Steel Retirees hold their monthly meeting at noon April 3 at the American Legion, East State Street, Sharon.
Plans for the July picnic will be discussed.

• Shenango Valley Corvette Club’s spring classic dance will be 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Saturday at Yankee Lake Ballroom. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.

Classes

• The American Red Cross of Trumbull and Mercer counties offers the following CPR/AED for the professional rescuer:
– 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 12 at Sharpsville office, 517 W. Main St.
– 6 to 10 p.m. April 22 and 24 at the Warren Office, 661 Mahoning Ave.
This course is designed to meet the needs of people who have a “duty to act” in an emergency. In addition to basic rescue skills it includes more advanced skills of two person rescue CPR and use of resuscitation and bag valve masks. If you need to re-certify your CPR Pro for a summer job, call the Warren office at 330-392-2551 or the Sharpsville office, 724-962-9180 for information or registration.
A reusable CPR mask can be purchased at the time of the class for an additional fee.
Special events

• The public is invited to Sankofa House for Women’s third annual Patches of Godlight Awards Dinner at 6:30 p.m. April 11 in The Corinthian banquet hall, Sharon.
The honoree will be Martha Richards, founder and executive director of Southwest Gardens. 
Emma Cunningham from Georgia will be the guest soloist for the evening. Cost is $25.

• Hartford-Badger Alumni Association will hold its 121st annual Alumni Banquet at 6 p.m. May 10 at Badger High School, 7119 state Route 7, Kinsman.

Bus trips

• Sharpsville Area Historical Society is sponsoring a bus trip to Presque Isle Casino in Erie on April 7. Participants will leave from Sharon City Centre at 10:30 a.m. and return about 8:15 p.m.

• Sharon Steel Retirees are sponsoring a seven-day trip to the “Isles of Georgia,” Sept. 7 through 13.
Highlights will include guided tours of Savannah and St. Simon’s and Jekyll islands.
Three historic homes, a plantation and two museums will be toured. A show at the historic Savannah Theatre and a casino cruise are included, along with a meal at Paula Deen’s “The Lady and Sons.”
Trip is open to the public.
