Arc celebrates another year of successful programming

The Arc of Mercer County celebrated another successful year at the annual dinner Thursday at Tiffany’s in Brookfield.
Highlights of the year, as laid out by CEO Robert R. Beach, include:
• The opening of STEPS day program in Hermitage.
• A Phoenix Award from the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce for innovation.
• Starting a social group for people with Asperger’s syndrome.
• Growth of the Home and Community Habilitative Aid program, which now has more than 120 staff and individuals.
• New fundraisers for the Arc foundation including a bocce tournament and the Cool Springs Fitness Chardonnay 5K walk/run.
• Licensing of a family living/life sharing program.
• Various renovations at buildings and group homes.
Ongoing projects include developing an older adult living center in the MCAR I building, the Education Advocacy program, new residential homes and lobbying for the Adult Protective Services Bill.
The evening also featured swearing in of new officers for The Arc of Mercer County, MCAR, Arc Foundation and Fairfields Inc. boards.
Staff members Hazel Jones and Tom McDonald were honored for 25 years of service; Mary Fair and Carrie Kreibel received awards for 15 years and Karen Gray, Mindi Jones, Jeff Kleinman, Christina O’Rourke, Nancy Osborne and Jonathan Richardson for five years.
