Annual games highlight June activities for senior citizens
Mercer County Senior Centers, divisions of Mercer County Area Agency on Aging Inc., announce activities for June.
The Mercer County Senior Games, sponsored by Mercer County Area Agency on Aging Inc. and others, is slated for June 7-13, for persons age 50 and older. Events include track and field, at the track, and basketball in the gym, both June 7 at Hickory High School, Hermitage; horseshoes, June 9 in Riverside Park, Greenville; shuffleboard, June 10 at McQuiston Center by the Park, Sandy Lake; bowling, June 11 at the Bowlodrome, Grove City; racquetball, June 12 at F.H. Buhl Club, Sharon; and golf, June 13 at Pine Hill Golf Course, Greenville. For information and registration, call 1-800-570-6222.
Healthy Steps for Older Adults programs will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. June 24, Riverview Manor, Sharon; June 25, Grove City Senior Center; and June 26, Mertz Towers, Sharpsville.
Shenango Valley
At Shenango Valley Senior Community Center, 220 N. Buhl Farm Drive, Hermitage:
Western Southern Insurance Co. will be available to answer questions from 10 a.m. to noon June 3 and 10.
Other highlights are:
• Tuesday — 11 a.m., Pam Dorfi speaking on Super Kids Race Soap Box Derby; and 1 to 3 p.m., free hearing screening and presentation by Dr. John P. Balko.
• Wednesday — 11 a.m., “Skin Cancer Awareness” by Riley Holtzapple.
• Thursday — 9:30 a.m., prize bingo courtesy of Orange Village Care Center, Masury.
• Friday — 1 to 4 p.m., ultra bingo.
• June 10 — 11 a.m., “Cooking with Herbs” with Debbie Plant.
• June 11 — 10 a.m., eyeglass cleaning and repair by Keystone Blind Association; and 11 a.m., “Personal Care Contracts, How to Protect Your Home” with Attorney Carolyn Hartle.
• June 13 — 9 to 11 a.m., “Men’s Day Out” pool and shuffleboard tournaments; and 11 a.m., magic demonstration, comedy, music, door prizes, raffles and snacks. Advance reservations required.
