— Tour Master Gardeners gardens on June 27
COOLSPRING TOWNSHIP -- Mercer County Master Gardeners will offer free open tours of their gardens at the Mercer County 4-H Park, on Route 19 north of Mercer, from 10 a.m. to noon June 27. Master Gardeners will give guided tours of their butterfly, herb, crescent moon, vegetable, ornamental grass and shade gardens, and also answer any gardening questions.
Conneaut Lake Classic Boat Show June 27

Family, teen movie nights planned at GC Library
GROVE CITY -- Grove City Community Library will have movie nights for a variety of ages.

Hungry? Stuff yourself on home-cooked roast beef
VOLANT -- Volant Volunteer Fire Company will host a roast beef dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. June 25 at the fire hall.

Cool off at annual ice cream supper
COOLSPRING TOWNSHIP -- The 2009 Mercer County Guernsey Ice Cream Supper will be from 5 to 9 p.m. June 26 at the Mercer County 4-H Park on Route 19, 1èmiles north of Mercer.
Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 6 to 12; kids 5 and under can eat for free.
Tickets are available in advance at Mercer County Extension Office, next to the 4-H park, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays. They may also be purchased at the door. Mercer-Northwest Guernsey Breeders’ Association sponsors the event. Proceeds are used to support Guernsey Association programs, including youth projects and 4-H.
Wolf Creek Church hosts Strawberry Festival
SLIPPERY ROCK -- Wolf Creek Presbyterian Church, located on Route 108 in Slippery Rock, will host a Strawberry Festival and Spoon Supper from 4:30 to 7 p.m. June 27. In addition to strawberry shortcake and sundaes, there will be a variety of picnic foods. Pricing is a la carte. Take-out is available. Proceeds will benefit the church’s Workers Class and Presbyterian Women projects.

Make-A-Wish seeks to fulfill sick kids’ dreams
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Pennsylvania and Southern West Virginia, based in Erie, is seeking children who may qualify for the magic of a wish come true.
Anyone can contact Make-A-Wish to refer a child. Eligibility is determined by the child’s doctor.
Life-threatening conditions that generally qualify children include, but are not limited to: various forms of cancer; heart disease; cystic fibrosis; Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy; and transplants. Children with more chronic conditions like cerebral palsy, developmental delays, diabetes, Crohn’s disease or spina bifida, may qualify if their conditions are coupled with other complications and the combination is considered life-threatening. Lollybagger set for July 11; features car show
GROVE CITY -- The third annual LollyBagger Race and Car Show begins at 10 a.m. July 11 at Grove City Memorial Park. The event is open to cars, trucks and bikes with a $10 entry donation per vehicle.
The LollyBagger Race is a scaled-down version of the popular reality television show “The Amazing Race.”
Two-person teams travel throughout the Grove City area, competing in cognitive and physical challenges (there are usually 10 challenges). One or both of the teammates are required to perform a task at each challenge location. There will also be a Chinese auction, children’s activities, food vendors and more. Kids invited to help stop littering via contest
This summer, children are invited to use a camera to identify the worst examples of litter in their neighborhoods. To focus attention on the litter problem, the Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC) is conducting its 24th annual Lens On Litter Photo Contest, with a deadline of Oct. 31. In the School Age Category, four prizes will be awarded with the first place winner receiving $1,000 in cash; second place $500; third place $250; and The People’s Choice Award of a digital camera. Examples of previous winners can be seen at www.prc.org. The contest identifies sites, which PRC then targets for clean-up through local action – be it the governing body or civic-minded organizations. In the past five years, litter has been removed from well over 300 sites.
Send entries (limit three per person) to the Pennsylvania Resources Council, 3606 Providence Road, Newtown Square, PA 19073. All entries must contain the following information on the back of the photo: entrant’s name, address, telephone number, title given to photo, location of litter site, age, the school grade and school name.
