July
15-19 – Old Home Week sponsored by Fredonia Volunteer Fire Department. Highlights: firemen’s parade, 5K race, pet parade, milk moustache and mooing contest with Dairy Princess, chicken barbecue, bingo, games, rides by L.A.M. Enterprises, raffles, food and fireworks by Zambelli. Info: 724-475-4502.
18-20 – Mercer’s Victorian Weekend on Courthouse Square. Highlights: antiques and period displays, ice cream social, programs at Mercer Area Library, Mercer County Historical Society tours, historical displays, music on the courthouse lawn by the Mercer Community Band, Grand Victorian Parade, horse-drawn carriage rides, entertainment, historic Underground Railroad walking and Mercer Citizens Cemetery tours, period children’s games and activities, 10th unit of the Pennsylvania Volunteers Civil War re-enactors, Victorian/Civil War Ball, classic and antique car and motorcycle show, tea party and house tour, food, arts and crafts.
22-26 - 38th annual Jefferson Township Fair, fairgrounds, 7407 Lamor Road. Highlights: Firefighters’ garden tractor, ATV and UTV pulls, Red Neck Games, truck and tractor pulls, children’s pedal pull and games, talent show, square dancing, fireworks, parade, horse show, food, daily dinners, exhibits, amusements and rides, bingo, and musical entertainment. 26-27 - 15th annual Pymatuning Pioneer & Arts Festival at Pymatuning State Park, U.S. Route 322, Jamestown. 27-Aug. 2 – 71st annual Sheakleyville Homecoming, sponsored by Sheakleyville Volunteer Fire Department at Firemaen’s Park, U.S. Route 19. Highlights: vesper service, musical entertainment, firemen’s parade, pet parade, pedal pull, queen pageant, free-style dirt bike show, truck and tractor pulls, cruise-in, chicken barbecue, bingo, food and ride-a-rama. 5-9 – Mercer County 4-H Roundup, sponsored by Mercer County 4-H Development Committee and Mercer County Cooperative Extension, at 4-H Park, U.S. Route 19, 1è miles north of Mercer in Coolspring Township. Highlights: cheese auction, showcase and cavalcade, 4-H Parade of Champions, box social, livestock sale, horse show, club exhibits, project displays, shows and activities. Free. 9 – 6th annual Danny Shaffer Fun Run, benefits seriously ill children through donations to the Jacob Lewis Memorial Fund.

16 – Pennsyltucky Olympics, contestants compete in “Redneck Games” to see who will be crowned the Pennsyltucky Champion.
Highlights: opening ceremonies, live entertainment, awards and closing ceremonies. Games include: Hub Cap Hurl, Git ‘R’ Dun Long Jump Contest, LIVE Big Buck Hunter, Dumpster Diving, Best Mullet. Prizes are awarded for individual events as well as crowning a Grand Champion who wins prizes including an old beat-up automobile.
17 – Slovak Fest, St. Matthias Church, 915 Cornell St., Youngstown. Highlights: Polka mass, food, halushky, lamb and chicken barbecue dinners, musical entertainment.
