• Mercer County Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children, families and friends will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday and the second Saturday of each month at UPMC Horizon, 2200 Memorial Blvd., Farrell.
Meetings are open to anyone who has lost a loved one through violence.

Picnic
• Hickory High School class of 1960 will meet for a picnic at the Cook Forest home of Dave Hofius at noon Aug. 16.
All class members and guests are invited and should bring a picnic favorite to share.
Special events
• Animal Appeal, a pet rescue and adoption organization, will have a display of dogs seeking responsible adoptive homes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Hermitage Agway, 4065 E. State St., Hermitage.

• Shenango Valley YMCA, Hermitage, offers these events:
– New ‘Members Only’ Lounge features free coffee and tea, comfortable couches, magazines and vending machines stocked with healthy food. It’s a wonderful place for members to be able to gather and talk with each other between their workouts and/or classes. They can also bring their laptops into the lounge and enjoy the free wireless Internet service provided by Surf724.com. Another new aspect of the lounge is a Nintendo Wii system that allows members to get active while having fun. YMCA also offers a special Subway menu to members. For the convenience of members, YMCA staff will call in their order to Subway while they enjoy a workout and their order can be delivered to the YMCA.
