1991 HHS grad reunited with lost class ring

CLARK — “Kevin’s not getting it back,” Carol McCurry said of her husband and her long-lost high school class ring.

For almost 20 years, McCurry thought the ring was in a mold at Hodge Foundry in Hempfield Township, where Kevin worked in 1994 when he lost the 1991 Hickory High School ring he wore as her gift.

“He assumed it went into one of the molds,” she said.

It hadn’t, she learned this week.

Greenville resident Melissa Kelly, who works as a receptionist at the foundry, found the ring while doing some spring cleaning at the office.

It was at the bottom of a drawer that’s seldom used.  She found it about a month ago and started sleuthing to figure out which “Carol” from the Hickory High School class of 1991 owned the ring.

“It’s amazing what she went through to find me,” McCurry said.

Kelly called the high school and found out the ring likely belonged to Carol Whippo, McCurry’s maiden name.

“I just Googled a lot,” Kelly said, referring to the online search engine.

She found McCurry’s daughter Nicole on Facebook, the social networking site, and made contact with the family earlier this week.

On Wednesday, they met face to face in McCurry’s home in Clark.

“Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, I can’t believe you found it. It’s all you talk about,” Nicole McCurry said.

“I can’t even begin to thank you enough,” Carol McCurry told Kelly.
