Scout Court of Honor held for Garman

SHENANGO VALLEY — An Eagle Scout Court of Honor was held March 30 for Brad Garman, 18, a senior at Hickory High School, Hermitage.

Brad, a member of Troop 65 in West Middlesex since second grade, earned his Eagle Scout rank on Jan. 9. To earn Boy Scouting’s highest award, scouts must earn at least 21 merit badges and demonstrate Scout spirit through the Boy Scout Oath and Law, service and leadership. It also includes an extensive service project in which the Scout plans, organizes, leads and manages.

For his project, Brad completed an outdoor fellowship area at South Pymatuning (Township) Community Church, where he has been a member since he was 4. The church hosted his Court of Honor.

Brad is also very active at school, earning seven letters for activities. He has wrestled for four years; thrown track and field for three years; and sang in chorus for six years and with Chamber Singers his senior year. Among other awards, he has earned two AAA awards of excellence for top work in academics, arts and athletics and has carried a grade point average of 95 through high school.

Brad plans to study welding at ETI Technical College in Niles, Ohio.

He is a son of Rhonda Garman, Hermitage; a grandson of Larry and Lucinda Garman; and a great-grandson of Arthur and Luella Garman, West Middlesex; Ruth Hawley, Sharon; and the late Lloyd Hawley.

At his ceremony he chose for his mentor to be his grandfather/father figure, Larry Garman.
