Air show’s returning and so will Thunderbirds

By Rev. Jim Erb

VIENNA — The 910th Airlift Wing announced Wednesday it’s hosting an air show this spring that will feature the Air Force Thunderbirds.

“Thunder over the Valley 2014,’’ hosted by the 910th and presented by the Youngstown Air Reserve Base-Community Council is scheduled for May 17-18.

The Air Force Thunderbirds aerial demonstration team, America’s Ambassadors in Blue, is scheduled to headline the show. Additional flying acts and static displays will be featured and will be announced as they are confirmed by show coordinators.

The 910th Airlift Wing hosted their most recent air show and open house five years ago. The event also featured the Thunderbirds and brought an estimated 70,000 spectators to the installation.

The scheduled air show and open house will provide a chance for the 910th Airlift Wing to demonstrate its mission and display Air Force capabilities. The May event will be free to the public but, unlike the 2009 air show, tickets will not be required.

“We are proud to open our gates to the public and highlight our world-class personnel and facilities,” said U.S. Air Force Reserve Col. James D. Dignan, 910th Airlift Wing Commander. “It is more important now than ever to invite the residents of the Mahoning Valley and beyond to YARS and let them see not only what we bring to the national defense but to the local community as well.”
