Students place at state science fair

SHARPSVILLE AREA — Students from Sharpsville Area School District competed at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science State Science Fair Competition at Penn State University in May.

Each student conducted an experiment based on the scientific method. To qualify for the state competition each student was awarded a first-place award at the Regional Science Fair at Slippery Rock University in February.

By grade level, Sharpsville competitors were:

12 grade – Daniel Kolesar, first place for his project “No Salt Please.” Daniel received the Perseverance Award for qualifying for the state competition six consecutive years.

11th grade – Brittany Lutheran, second place for her project “Breathe In Breathe Out.” Brittany received the Perseverance Award for qualifying for the state competition five consecutive years.

10th grade – Roberta Pegg, second place for her project “Coffee Mugs.” Roberta received the Perseverance Award for qualifying for the state competition four consecutive years.

Ninth-graders – Juliana Stanko, second place for her project “Are Fungi Plants?” Cameron Kruisselbrink attended as technician.

Eighth-graders – Lily Abinader, second place for her project “Stretching the Possibilities;” Hannah Carmella, first place for her project “Sticky Situation;” and Elysse Rogers, second place  for her project “Cool It!”

Seventh-graders – Guilia Commisso, second place for her project “Putting Cups to the Test;” Amber Dawson, third place for her project “Paper Towel vs. Water;” Sydney Detky, first place for her project “Banana Bonzana;” Madison Houck, first  place for her project “Lotion Moisture;” Ray Miller, first place for his project “Ball Bounce,” and Jacob Yudt, first place for his project “Tennis Ball Travel.”
