Residents now have library privileges

DELAWARE TOWNSHIP — Delaware Township supervisors agreed June 4 to financially support Mercer Area Library.

Effective immediately, all township residents have free access to the library and its online services and to all other Pennsylvania public libraries.

Residents can get a free library card that allows them to check out books and other materials and download free ebooks and audiobooks to Kindles, Nooks, iPads and other tablets, as well as smart phones, iPods, and many other digital devices.

Residents will also have access to Mango Languages, an online language learning system that offers over 50 foreign languages courses and 17 English as a second language courses. With Mango Mobile, now available for Android and iPhone, patrons can learn on the go.

The library also offers online reference resources such as Ask Here PA, Power Library, and Gale Virtual Reference Library. If patrons are looking for materials that Mercer Library doesn’t have, they can request Interlibrary Loan services, a state-sponsored service that is not available to paying cardholders.

Lastly, with their new Mercer Area Library card, Delaware Township patrons will be able to use the Access Pennsylvania state library system, which enables them to get a library card from any other library in the state. They can then borrow books and download digital content from other libraries.

To learn more about the library’s services, upcoming events, summer reading programs, and the digital collection, visit the library’s website at, Facebook page (search for Mercer Area Library), call 724-662-4233, or visit the library on Venango Street to meet the staff, take a tour and get a free card.
