Safe tractor, machinery operation course offered

COOLSPRING TOWNSHIP – To comply with the Fair Labor Standards Act, youth ages 14 through 16 must be certified to operate farm tractors and certain machinery on farms other than their parents’.

Teens can earn that certification by taking the National Safe Tractor and Machinery Operation home study course, completing a series of educational task sheets and passing a written exam, followed by passing an equipment skills exam and a tractor driving test in early June.

To participate in the course, youth and a parent or guardian must attend an orientation meeting from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday in Leslie N. Firth Learning Center, 463 N. Perry Highway, Coolspring Township.

Teens who cannot attend the meeting can still be considered for the course by making an appointment.

Register for the meeting or make an appointment by calling 724-662-3141.
