Kids in the news from Feb. 1, 2014

- — Mercer students place 1st in ‘Presidents’ game

MERCER – Mercer Elementary recently had the first-place team out of 29 teams entered at the Academic Games competition of Presidents held Jan. 15 at Slippery Rock University.

Team members were Kieran Anderson, Emalee Hostetler, Isaiah Phillips, Carly Stabile and Rachel Mills.

Jenna Blaus, Emalee Hostetler and Kieran Anderson were recognized with certificates of individual win by placing in the top 10 percent of all scores for the day.

All are now qualified for the TriBowl competition in March to be held at Grove City College.

Mercer also had a combo team with Mohawk School District that placed sixth. The three students on that team were Jenna Blaus, Adrienne Schupp and Sofia Dorfi.

The next competition will be in February for the math game of Equations.
