The Herald

COOLSPRING TOWNSHIP — Mercer County Cooperative Extension hosts a workshop March 22 for land owners who want to help contribute to the eventual return of American chestnut.

The workshop – to be held in Leslie N. Firth Learning Center in Coolspring Township – will deal with establishment of American chestnut from seed and after-care required to ensure the trees’ survival. Additional instruction will be provided on successful establishment of other common Pennsylvania hardwoods.

The $35 registration fee includes 10 each of open pollinated American chestnut seed, tree shelters, fiberglass tree stakes, soil amendment mix and all class handouts.
