St. Michael’s students to vie at state

GREENVILLE — Students from St. Michael School in grades six, seven and eight took part in the district level of National History Day at Westminster College, with schools from Mercer, Lawrence, and Butler counties competing.

In the junior division, 17 students will advance to state competition in May. Students receiving this honor are:

Individual performance

First place: Caroline Hoovler – Ruby Bridges and the Integration of Education.

Historical paper

First place: John Cianci – The NPT: A Comprehensive Look at the Cornerstone of Nuclear Weapons Control.

Non-proliferation

Second place: Ed Cianci – The Manhattan Project.

Individual documentary

First place: Owen Cianci – The Road to Glory: The 1966  NCAA Men’s National Basketball Championship.

Second place: Cassie Hockett – Lighting Up the World – The Cutting Edge.

Individual website

First place: Lee Groce – Oil: Turning Point in History.

Second place: Alex Harpst – The Three Days that Saved America: The Battle of Gettysburg.
