Pennsylvania State Police at Mercer are again collecting new, unwrapped toys for distribution in Mercer County.
Toys can be dropped off in the barrel in the lobby of the station in Jackson Township until Dec. 15.
MIME Ministry of Community Missionary Baptist Church holds a blanket drive and will distribute them to area nursing homes and community shelters.
Items accepted are blankets, snuggies and body throws.
Blankets/items can be dropped off between noon and 3 p.m. Saturdays through Dec. 29 at the church, 1013 Emerson Ave., Farrell.
The First Tee
The First Tee of Sharon, a program that helps young people develop healthy habits and life skills, is accepting monetary donations that will be matched for a grant.
A Secret Santa has offered to donate $1 for every $2 donation to the program during December.

Shenango Valley Urban League seeks the community’s help with collecting items for its Secret Santa Christmas Gift Collection for Joshua’s Haven City Mission in Sharon.
Donations will be gift-wrapped by students in the Urban League’s NULITES youth leadership program.
Homeless shelter wish list: boxer underwear (L, XL, XXL), slippers (size 10, 11, 12), pajama pants (L or XL), T-shirts (L, XL, XXL), long sleeve T-shirts (L, XL, XXL), sweatshirts & sweatpants (L, XL), body wash, toilet paper, laundry detergent, cold cereal (any kind), paper plates & paper bowls, napkins, instant oatmeal (individual packets), plastic silverware, paper towels, liquid dish soap, disposable razors, deodorant, gas cards, bus tokens and gloves.
Donations will be accepted at the Urban League, 601 Indiana Ave., Farrell, until 4 p.m. Dec. 16.

Quota International of Hermitage’s Gutchies for Kidz program continues to accept new undergarments for school-age children through high school. The group is also collecting pajamas for the holiday season.

Penn State Shenango
Penn State Shenango is holding a toy drive to benefit the Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots Foundation. All new toys are welcome.
The program collects new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distributes them as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.
The collection continues through Dec. 16 in the campus bookstore located in McDowell Hall, the Student Affairs Office in Sharon Hall room 103, and in the PTA building located across from the Lartz Memorial Library.

GC Food Pantry
Grove City Community Food Pantry, 114 S. Center St., which serves close to 630 families, is collecting donations via the annual Parade of Trees in which nonprofits set up a decorated tree in downtown Grove City businesses.
The public votes for favorite trees by placing donated non-perishable food items, hygiene products and cleaning goods under them.
Donations will be accepted through Dec. 15.
Hermitage Goodfellows will again be assisting families at Christmas. The Goodfellows will deliver food and toys on Christmas Eve.
Last year, the Goodfellows delivered to more than 120 families and elderly residents of Hermitage.
The Goodfellows have been helping families for more than 50 years.
Anyone wishing to drop off canned goods or toys may do so in Hermitage at the city garage on Virginia Road, Fire Station 1 on Highland Road, or Rice Pool and Spa at 3604 E. State St.
New toys for boys and girls ages 9 to 13 are needed this year.
Requests for families in need or monetary donations should be addressed to Hermitage Goodfellows and sent to Box 1011, Hermitage 16148.
Any requests for assistance should include first names and ages of all children.

Susan Jacobs is working on a mask impression – made from a cast of a real person’s face – with a scarf-like appendage wrapping around it. She has painted the piece but decided it is too shiny, so she’s sanding it to cut the shine. Maybe she’ll add more paint; maybe she won’t.

High School Speech Team sends eight to state tournament
The Mercer High School Speech Team opened post-season competition Saturday by qualifying eight members to the Pennsylvania High School Speech League state tournament during District 1’s annual qualifying tournament at Pine-Richland High School, Gibsonia. District 1 includes member schools in Mercer, Butler, Crawford, and Erie counties.
