Mercer County senior centers activities

MERCER COUNTY — Mercer County Senior Centers, divisions of Mercer County Area Agency on Aging Inc., have announced activities for July.

All centers will be closed for the July 4 holiday.

Shenango Valley

At Shenango Valley Senior Community Center, 220 N. Buhl Farm Drive, Hermitage:

No senior choir will be held in July.

Prize bingo will be held at 10 a.m. in the center with sponsors, NuChoice Health Partners, Hermitage, July 3; O’Brien Memorial Nursing Home, Masury, July 10; Juniper Village at the Shenango Inn, Sharon, July 17; Garden Way Place, Hermitage, July 24; and Whispering Oaks, Hermitage, July 31. Seniors must preregister for lunch to play or pay $2.

Don Gold will teach an advanced painting class for participants 50 years and older who do acrylics and watercolors and are looking to advance their skills. Class size is limited to five students, pending an interview by Gold to determine art goals. Classes will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. each Monday in July and August with a fee of $10 per class that includes canvases, paint and mediums. • July 3 – 9:15 a.m., Wellness and Preventative Support Group with NuChoice; and 11 a.m., July 4 party with music by Steve Mettivich.

• July 9 – 10 a.m., eyeglass cleaning and minor repairs by Keystone Blind Association; 10:30 a.m., Marbles, the Therapy Cat visits; 11 a.m., “What’s Expected When You’re an Executor of an Estate” with Attorney Carolyn Hartle; and 2 p.m., sign language class with Jennifer Caulk of Citizen’s Bank.

• July 10 – 9:15 a.m., diabetic support group with a Sharon Regional Health System dietitian.

• July 11 – 1 p.m., blood pressures with Elite; and 1:30 to 4 p.m., Ultra Bingo sponsored by Specialty Orthopaedics with free door prizes, snacks and a 50/50 raffle. Bring in a non-perishable food or canned dog food to get a free card for coverall. New participants get a free coverall card.

• July 16 – 11 a.m., birthday party with Jim Hutchinson.

• July 23 – 11 a.m., “The Benefits of Grief Therapy” with Tina Liguori, Advanced Life Coach; and 2 p.m., sign language class with Ms. Caulk.

• July 24 – 9:30 a.m., Euchre tournament.

• July 28 – 10 a.m. prize bingo with Whitecliff nursing home, Hempfield Township.

• July 30 – 11 a.m., visit from representatives at Butler Veterans Affairs; and noon, sign language class with Ms. Caulk.

Beginner and intermediate computer classes with Chuck Roberts includes eight 1è-hour classes. Participants will attend twice a week for four weeks at a cost of $30. Call the center for details.

The Walk Fit Club has free entry with prizes.

• Mondays – 9 a.m., Shape it Up With Weights; 9:30 a.m., Po-Ke-No; 9:30 a.m. to noon, Euchre group (July 14, 28); 11:40 a.m., aquatic exercise with Phyllis Mammarelli of the YMCA at the Children’s Center of Mercer County, North Hermitage Road; 1 p.m., Arthritis Foundation exercise class; 1:30 p.m., writing group with Tom Rookey; 2 p.m., tap dance class; 3:30 p.m., general dance.

• Tuesdays – 8 a.m., Co-Ed Cardio Circuits; 9 a.m., Perfect “10” Stretch; 9:30 a.m., bingo and duplicate bridge; 10 a.m., Zumba Gold (except July 1); 11 a.m., Trim ’n’ Tone; noon, yoga.

• Wednesdays – 9 a.m., Sculpt & Strengthen; 9:30 a.m., bingo; 11:15 a.m., strength training; 11:40 a.m., aquatic exercise; 1 p.m., Happy Needle group; Arthritis Foundation exercise class; and grief support group (July 9, 23).

• Thursdays – 8 a.m., Co-Ed Cardio Circuits (except July 3); 9 a.m., Perfect “10” Stretch (except July 3); 9:30 a.m., Thursday bridge group; 10 a.m., Zumba Gold; 11 a.m., Trim ’n’ Tone; and blood pressures; noon, Yoga; 1 p.m., afternoon Euchre group (July 10, 24); and 1:15 p.m., line dancing.

• Fridays – 9 a.m., Cardio Blast!; 9:30 a.m., duplicate bridge; 10 a.m., shuffleboard and cornhole; 11 a.m., discussion group; 11:15 a.m., strength training; and 1 p.m., ping pong.

The center is open daily from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except holidays. Be in the dining room and seated by 11:45 a.m. before lunch that is served weekdays at noon for a donation of $2.50 with two business days’ notice. A cold lunch option is available with notice. Sandy Lake

At McQuiston Center by the Park, 29 Railroad St.:

Gene Jordan, Hadley author, will make a presentation and have his book for sale at 11 a.m. July 9.

The Jack Bestwick Memorial Shuffleboard Tournament will be held at 9 a.m. July 15, with registration at 8:30 a.m. The lunch donation is $2.50.

Kayaking enthusiasts will leave the center at 9 a.m. July 17 for Stoneboro Lake.

A giveaway raffle is slated for 11 a.m. July 21. Bring one item you no longer need that is in clean and working order.

Those desiring may leave the center at 9:30 a.m. July 25 for a pontoon boat ride at RC Marina, Shenango Lake from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The center will be closed.

• July 23 – 11 a.m., “Southern Hospitality” with Kerry Eidenmuller.

• July 28 – 11 a.m., summer edible craft with Kerry Eidenmuller.

• July 29 – 11 a.m., UNO.

• July 30 – 11 a.m., “Let the Sunshine In,” celebrating fun in the sun, sun safety and the color yellow with Kerry Eidenmuller.

• Tuesdays – 9 a.m., shuffleboard; and 12:30 p.m., 500 cards (except July 15).

• Wednesdays – 10 a.m., Seniorcise; and 1 p.m., Tai Chi.

• Thursdays – Shuffleboard, cards, table games, puzzles, checkers, TV and more; and 10 a.m. to noon, Wii games available; and 9 a.m., Mah Jongg.
