ATV Safety Day set for Saturday

SOUTH PYMATUNING TOWNSHIP — Community ATV Safety Day will be Saturday at Bayview ORV Riding Area on Shenango Lake, Route 846 in South Pymatuning Township. There will be a youth class, safety demonstrations and demo rides.

The youth class is set for 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pennsylvania law requires children ages 8 to 15 to complete the safety course to operate an ATV, with the exception of driving on land that is owned or leased by a parent or guardian.

Certified safety instructors from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will be teaching the free safety courses. Class is limited to the first eight registered students; call 724-854-5044.

Adult test rides will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for those ages 16 and older with a valid drivers license, Northstar Power Sports will have a variety of ATVs to drive. Riders must wear long pants, long-sleeve shirt and over-the-ankle shoes; no flip-flops or sandals.

Adult safety demonstrations will be at 1 p.m. ATV Traction instructors will discuss and demonstrate safe riding techniques.

The free event is hosted by ATV Traction, Inc., Northstar Power Sports and the Army Corps of Engineers.
