Troop 7 celebrates 100 Eagle Scouts

HERMITAGE — Boy Scout Troop 7 of Clark hosted a 100 Eagles celebration at its annual Red and White banquet last month.

Planning for the celebration began after Samuel Evans became Troop 7’s 100th Eagle Scout last year. Banquet organizers, including co-chairs Debbie Teague and Denise Malovich, hoped to find as many of Troop 7’s Eagles as possible.

The event was funded by private donations and was held at Faith Presbyterian Church in Hermitage to accommodate the 150 people who attended, included 29 Troop 7 Eagle Scouts.

Special guests were Dottie Gibson, wife of troop founder and longtime Scoutmaster Homer Gibson, and her son Nic Gibson, an Eagle Scout and assistant Scoutmaster; Senior Mercer County Common Pleas Judge John C. Reed; and state Rep. Mark Longietti.

Speakers were Brian Patt and Dan Zippie.

Zippie and his sons Sean and Ryan are all Troop 7 Eagles. Another father and son pair are Roger Weaver and his son Charles.

Brothers from Troop 7 who became Eagles are: David and Daniel Daughenbach, Nathan and Tyler Malovich, Mark and Todd Yarian, Robert and Jon Doddato, Ian and Connor Lucas, Richard and Patrick Martell, Roger and Roy Weaver, Ken and Brian Guthrie, Clayton and Chad Sheasley, Craig Welch and Jason Williams, and Bryce, Ryan and Shawn Reed.

Notable Troop 7 Eagles include Olympic Gold Medalist Rodney White and Sean Rowe, Episcopalian Archbishop of the Erie Diocese.

Gibson founded Troop 7 in 1968. Mike McKenna took over as Scoutmaster from Gibson in 2005. The troop has 20 active members and meets from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays at Clark Trinity United Methodist Church.

Troop 7 Eagle Scouts who have not yet filled out a questionnaire to complete the troop’s book about its first 100 Eagles are asked to contact Debbie Teague at 724-962-3156 or by e-mail at
