SHENANGO TOWNSHIP —
Mercer County Unit NAACP will host their 50th Annual Freedom Fund Banquet at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 4 at Park Inn by Radisson, Route 18, Shenango Township.
Keynote speaker is Andrea Carson, national vice president for the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice, Midwest Region.
Mrs. Carson started her college education at the University of Cincinnati and subsequently earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Eastern Kentucky University.
After retiring in 2009, having worked in state government for 31 years including communications director for the Ohio prison system, Mrs. Carson became the executive director and partner of Carson Criminal Justice Consultants.
Mrs. Carson is a life member of NABCJ and a past president of the Ohio Chapter.
Active in her community, for nearly three decades she has been a speaker, presenter and teacher at conferences, seminars and other gatherings. She also serves as a mentor, especially to young women in the field of criminal justice.
At church, Andrea is involved in the women’s ministry; serves as the vice chair of its deaconess ministry; and has an outreach ministry, HerStory, coordinating donations of clothing, toiletries and other items given to women in battered shelters, halfway houses and to those just released from prison.
She is the wife of Jeffrey E. Carson, with whom she shares two daughters, Courtney and Lauren Dean.
