- — The Mercer Area Library, 110 E. Venango S., Mercer, offers these events for June:

• Scholastic Buy One Get One Free Book Fair runs through Saturday during regular library hours. Help us kick off this year’s summer reading programs by coming to our Scholastic BOGOne Free Book Fair. This event includes a wonderful selection of fun, engaging, and affordable books, toys, posters, and knickknacks.

• Fizz, Boom, Read! Summer Reading Program is Tuesday through Aug. 12. Wild and crazy science is in the works this summer for on-going non-stop fun for preschoolers, elementary students, teens, and adults! Themes for this year’s children’s program “Fizz, Boom, Read,” the teen program “Spark a Reaction,” and the adult program “Literary Elements.” Signups for all programs continue throughout the summer. Take your kids to participate in our “Mad Scientist” weekly events, read for fun all summer, and enter our drawings for some amazing prizes. • Preschool Storytime for ages 2 to 5, from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursdays. Storytime is packed with great books, fun, excitement, and lots of energetic activities. Children have a great opportunity to make new friends, listen to wonderful stories, learn about holidays, historical events, and a wide variety of interesting topics. They even get to make lots of creative and artistic take-home crafts!

• Tablet, Phone, & E-reader Workshops, 6 to 7:30 p.m. June 10 and 10 to 11 a.m. June 18. E-reader, smart phone, and tablet owners: Take your device to our e-reader workshop for a hands-on class that will help you to become familiar with your e-reader, help you to download free library audiobooks and ebooks, and show you some great sources for free and discounted ebooks. You may also call the library to schedule an individual appointment for one-on-one help.

• Toddler/Preschooler Play Time, 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays. The library will provide a weekly playtime, where toddlers and preschoolers can listen to music, play with toys, and interact with others in the neighborhood. We will put out toys for the children to play with, while the adults also play and chat. Parents or caregivers are free to bring snacks and drinks for the children to enjoy, as well as toys for the children to play with. We will happily accept donations of additional age-appropriate toys to add to our current collection.

• Windows 8 Computer classes, 6 to 7:30 p.m. June 17-19. Do you need help with your computer, laptop, phone or tablet that is running the Windows 8 operating system? Scott Powner, director of information technology at the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV in Grove City, will be conducting a three-class program at the library. Powner will be introducing you to Windows 8 and teaching you all the tools and tricks that you can use to get the most out of your computer or device. Registration is required and there is a $10 fee for this three-part seminar.

• Family Movie Night, “The LEGO Movie,” at 6 p.m. June 20. Join us for this terrific movie and free popcorn. The LEGO Movie, rated PG, is the first-ever, full-length theatrical LEGO adventure. This original computer animated story follows Emmet (Chris Pratt) an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.

• Hands-on Computer Help for Beginners, 6 to 7:30 p.m. June 24. Scott Powner will be conducting a beginner’s computer class designed for seniors as well as new and/or inexperienced computer users that need basic computer instruction. Come with your questions and needs. Powner will assist everyone to become more proficient computer users. Registration is required.
