Robert M. Sabo, 1074 Hillcrest St., Sharon, passed away at 8 a.m. Sunday (5-4-08) in his residence. He was 60.
Mr. Sabo was born Friday, Sept. 26, 1947, in Sharon, the son of Robert M. and Jeanette Booth Sabo.
A lifelong area resident, he was a member of Farrell High School’s graduating class of 1965.
He served with the Army Reserves.
Bob worked for 34 years at Packard Electric Corp. in several capacities, and retired in 1999 as a quality control inspector.
A member of International Union of Electrical Workers Local 717, he served as a union representative in Packard’s Plant 42, and was an elected district committeeman in Packard’s Plant 12.
In 1978, he was selected to serve on the jobs committee at Packard, which was a joint committee formed to unite union and management in order to hire better employees and to expand Packard’s operations. This committee became the model for the entire auto industry and many of its practices are still in use today.
He attended Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage.
Bob was a member of American Legion Post 299, Sharon, for 17 years and served on the board of directors for the American Legions Home Corp. from 2000 until 2007 and was the bar manager from 2001 until 2004.
He is survived by his wife, Regina M. LaSalle, at home.
He is also survived by a son, Robert Michael Sabo, Florida; three sisters, Carol J. Davis and her husband Thomas W., Hermitage; Barbara A. Leo, Hermitage; and Mary Sue Allan, Hermitage; and three sisters-in-law, Marsha Davis and her husband Greg; Debra Fait; and Colleen Ziolkowsky.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-nephew, Andrew Iacobucci; and two brothers-in-law, John Fait and Chuck Ziolkowsky.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Sharon Regional Hospice and Palliative Care, 2320 Highland Road, Hermitage 16148.
