Richard L. Claypoole, a resident of 613 Princeton St., Grove City, for 44 years, died at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, 2008, in his residence after an extended illness. He was 71.
Mr. Claypoole was born July 9, 1937, in Clay Township, Butler County, to Gilbert “G.Y.” and Daisy Pisor Claypoole.
He married Melinda O. Boofer June 28, 1957.
He retired in 1998 from Cooper Energy Services, Grove City, where he was a coremaker for 36 years.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Grove City.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He especially enjoyed his dog “Pooh.”
He is survived by: his wife, Melinda, at home; two children, Dennis L. Claypoole Sr. and his wife Brenda, Slippery Rock; and Karen L. Daugherty-Lawson and her husband Steve, Oil City; five sisters, Mary Sutton, Butler; Elsie Jordan, Jackson Center; Helen Artman, Chicora, Pa.; Polly Stoughton, Chicora; and Nellie Shields and her husband James, Slippery Rock; and 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Morian Claypoole; a half-brother, Lester Claypoole; and two half-sisters, Mabel Cloverdale and Gladys Barnes.

Calling hours: 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday (8-19-08) and one hour before the service on Wednesday (8-20-08) in CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME Inc., 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.
Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. David Johnson, pastor of First Baptist Church, Grove City, officiating.
Burial: Crestview Memorial Park, Pine Township.
