James E. Forsythe, 469 Koonce Road, Hermitage, passed away at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. He was 79.

Mr. Forsythe was born July 30, 1929, in Connellsville, Pa., the oldest child of the late Leslie and Marie Bentz Forsythe.

He was a 1947 graduate of Girard (Ohio) High School and received his bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering and math from Youngstown State University.

Mr. Forsythe began his career with Ramtite Refractory Corp. in Chicago, and retired in August 1992 as superintendent of the 60” Hot Strip Mill at the former Sharon Steel Corp.’s Farrell plant, where he was employed for more than 30 years. He previously worked as an assistant superintendent in the basic oxygen furnace and in other various capacities at Sharon Steel.

He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Girard.

Mr. Forsythe, who was a caddy in his youth at Mahoning Country Club, was an avid golfer and a former member of what was Greenville Country Club; Oak Tree Country Club, Shenango Township, where he recorded a hole-in-one on Oct. 25, 1986, on the 9th hole; and Sharon Steel Golf League.

He served with the Army during the Korean conflict at the Army Chemical Center in Baltimore.

Jim always enjoyed having coffee with his friends at Dunkin’ Donuts in Hermitage. His greatest love, however, was his family. He looked forward to attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and was an extremely devoted husband, father and grandfather.

A man with a tender heart, he will be greatly missed by many, including his dog, Fritz.

“As water reflects a face, so a man’s heart reflects the man,” Proverbs 27:19.

Surviving are: his wife at home, the former Beverly Ann Baker, to whom he was married Jan. 11, 1958, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Girard, by the Rev. Phillip J. Sinner; a daughter, Kim Jordan and her husband Kirk, Hadley; a son, James L. Forsythe and his wife Linda, West Middlesex; two grandchildren, James “Jimmy” W. Forsythe; and Jessica Argenziano and her husband Mark; and two sisters, Ruth Forsythe; and Beverly Meuser and her husband Charles, all Girard.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
