WWII Navy veteran was retired contractor
NEW WILMINGTON — A funeral service will be held Friday for Chester William Thompson of 3503 state Route 208, Wilmington Township, Lawrence County. He passed away at 1:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, in Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care, New Wilmington. He was 89.
Mr. Thompson was born June 14, 1920, in Pulaski to Arthur Kirk Thompson and Agnes Myrtle Weber Thompson.
He attended Ellwood City schools.
Mr. Thompson retired as a self-employed contractor, having owned Thompson Builders, constructing homes in Mercer and Lawrence counties. He was also owner of Thompson Apartments.
A Navy veteran, Mr. Thompson served in World War II and was a former commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6233, West Middlesex.
He was of the Presbyterian faith and loved to garden.
His wife, the former Millicent McFarland, whom he married Aug. 25, 1982, survives at the residence.
Also surviving are: three daughters, Ellen Abramson and her husband Daniel; and Mary O’Neil and her husband Andrew, all Pulaski; and Judy Thompson and her husband Gary White, Sharon; two sons, Ralph Thompson, Warren, Ohio; and Thomas Thompson, New Bedford; two sisters, Gladys Shelhamer, Greenville; and Ethel Cregg, Boardman, Ohio; and Mr. Thompson’s former wife, Vivian Jamison, New Castle.
He also leaves seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Chester was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, John, Francis, Arthur and an infant, George; an infant daughter, Katherine; and twin infant grandsons, Shawn and John.
