She passed away at 3:45 p.m. Monday (10-26-09) in Countryside Convalescent Home, East Lackawannock Township. She was 94.

Delaware church member worked at variety of jobs
A funeral service will be held Thursday for Eleanor R. Theiss of 8221 Lamor Road, East Lackawannock Township, formerly of 1135 Palmer Road, Mercer. She passed away at 3:45 p.m. Monday (10-26-09) in Countryside Convalescent Home, East Lackawannock Township. She was 94.
Mrs. Theiss was born Aug. 21, 1915, in Youngstown to John and Katie Binder Roth.
She was a graduate of Chaney High School.
Mrs. Theiss worked as a caseworker for 11 years at the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare in Sharon. She was previously employed for eight years as a secretary for Jamestown Area School District and had worked in the classified department at the Record-Argus newspaper in Greenville.
For many years, Eleanor helped her husband, Gottfried “Gus” Theiss, whom she married Sept. 2, 1939, with their dairy farm in Jamestown. He passed away Jan. 21, 1997.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Delaware Township.
Her hobbies included gardening, flowers and painting.
Surviving are: two sons, Martin Theiss and his wife Jody, Hadley; and Stephen Theiss and his wife Nancy, Mercer; and five grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, John G. Theiss and James T. Theiss; and a great-grandson, Michael Theiss.
