Howard William Foust, 127 Hadley Road, Hempfield Township, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 6:36 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, after an extended illness. He was 79.

Mr. Foust was born March 12, 1930, in Greenville, a son of Floyd Ephraim and Mary Wright Foust.

He was a 1947 graduate of the former Penn High School, Greenville.

Mr. Foust attended Thiel College, Greenville, then Youngstown State University, where he earned his bachelor of science degree in accounting in 1962.

Upon his graduation, he went to work as a signalman for Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad, Greenville.

He then served in the Army during the Korean conflict from 1951-53.

Mr. Foust returned to Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad upon his honorable discharge from the Army. He was employed as accounting manager from 1955 until 1983 by the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. He then worked for the former Mercer County Living Center as the fiscal manager beginning in 1984 until his retirement in 1998.

As a member of First Presbyterian Church in Greenville, he served as a Sunday school teacher, an ordained deacon, ordained elder and a trustee. He also served on the Presbytery Council, Shenango Presbytery.

He was a former member of the board of directors of the Shenango Home, New Wilmington.

Mr. Foust led a full life. He kept the financial records of the Pymatuning Outboard Motor Club from 1983 until 2008 and was one of the original members of and the longest tenured person serving on the Mercer County Juvenile Probation Department’s Community Court, beginning in 1999.

He was an enthusiastic member of the Greenville Lions Club, where he served as King Lion in 2004.

An avid golfer and bowler, Howard loved spending time with the members of the Senior Golf League at Pine Hill Golf Course in Greenville, as well as the Senior Bowling League at Celebrity Bowl in Greenville.

Mr. Foust was a wonderful husband, a devoted father, doting grandfather, caring brother and giving friend to many.

He was the loving husband of the former Carole Lee Jamison, whom he married Oct. 11, 1952. She survives at home. She is the daughter of Kenneth M. and Gladys Platt Jamison, who preceded her husband in death.

Howard’s surviving children are: the Rev. Kenneth W. Foust and his wife Barbara Foust, Lower Burrell, Pa., and their children, Carrie and Will; Randall Foust and his wife Kimberly, Dublin, Ohio, and their children Derek, Jessica and Natalie; and Kevin L. Foust and his wife Lynda, Roanoke, Va., and their son, Nathan.
