Helen M. Kerr, formerly of 1129 Walnut St., Stoneboro, died at 4:08 p.m., Saturday (10-31-09) in St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township, after an extended illness. She was 89.

Mrs. Kerr was born Oct. 28, 1920, in New Castle to Harry S. and Katherine Brosco Trushel.

Helen attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and then graduated from New Castle High School in 1939.

In her early years she had worked for Penn Power of New Castle and as a supervisor for Bell Telephone.

Mrs. Kerr was a faithful and active member of St. Columbkille Roman Catholic Church, Stoneboro.

Helen loved to play cards and over the years she belonged to many 500 and bridge clubs.

Most of all, Helen was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved family get-togethers, especially with all of the grandchildren. She was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

She was the wife of former Stoneboro Postmaster Frederick M. “Freddy” Kerr, whom she married Sept.20, 1941. He preceded her in death March 24, 1974.

She is survived by: three daughters, Mrs. Terrence “Ted” (Michele) Reiser, Mercer; Mrs. Thomas (Kathleen) Reagle, Stoneboro; and Mrs. Kevin (Lisa) Romango, Fox Chapel, Pa.; a son, Michael B. Kerr, Jackson Center; a daughter-in-law, Vickie K. Kerr, Sandy Lake; 11 grandchildren, Teddy Reiser, Michael Todd Kerr and his wife Tina, Bradley Reagle and his wife Mandy, Stefanie Hinkson, Carrie Riddle, Monica Kerr, Jesse Kerr and his companion Heather Ainsley, Jeffrey F. Reiser and his wife Jennifer, Ryan Kerr, Alexander Romango and Conner Romango; eight great-grandchildren; and a dear cousin, Annamae Raineir of Toms River, N.J.

Besides her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by a son, Brian D. Kerr, on Oct. 15, 2009.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Columbkille Roman Catholic Church, PO Box 206, Stoneboro, PA 16153.

Calling hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today (11-2-09) in SCOTT A. BLACK FUNERAL HOME, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro, with a prayer vigil at 4 p.m. in the funeral home.

Service: Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Tuesday (11-3-09) in St. Columbkille Roman Catholic Church, 70 Franklin St., Stoneboro, with the Rev. Daniel R. Hoffman, parochial vicar of St. Michael’s R.C. Church, Greenville, as celebrant.
