Published November 03, 2009 08:23 pm - Mary L. Couch, 123 N. 2nd St., Greenville, passed away at 10:55 a.m. Tuesday (11-3-09) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, after a brief illness. She was 90.

Mary L. Couch, 123 N. 2nd St., Greenville, passed away at 10:55 a.m. Tuesday (11-3-09) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, after a brief illness. She was 90.

Mrs. Couch was born Sept. 13, 1919, in Greenville to William J. and Irene E. Snearline Saxe.

She was a 1936 graduate of St. Michael’s High School, Greenville.

Mrs. Couch worked for 13 years as a bookkeeper at Pymatuning Boat Sales in Jamestown.

As a member of St. Michael’s Church, Greenville, she belonged to the former Altar Rosary Society. Mary enjoyed playing Scrabble and bingo and was an avid sports watcher.

Her husband, William H. Couch, whom she married Feb. 20, 1942, passed away July 28, 1974.

Surviving are: two daughters, Mary Ellen Kidd, Greenville; and Lois Garner and her husband Bobby, Centerville, Ohio; two sons, Thomas J. Couch and his wife Elaine, Oklahoma City, Okla.; and David W. Couch and his wife Hope, Greenville; a brother, Donald G. Saxe, Hermitage; and five grandchildren, Laura Marshall, Heidi Couch, Megan Gaston, Leslie Taylor and Brian Couch.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Robert, Paul and William Saxe; a sister, Jeannette Van Dyke; and a son-in-law, Allen Kidd.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael’s School Endowment Fund, 85 N. High St., Greenville, PA 16125.

Service: Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. Friday (11-6-09) in St. Michael’s Church, Greenville, with the Rev. Daniel Hoffman, parochial vicar, as celebrant.

Burial: With committal service at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Greenville.
