Published November 17, 2009 09:38 pm - Harold R. Henning, 2909 William Ave., Sharpsville, passed away at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, after an extended illness. He was 85.

Harold R. Henning, 2909 William Ave., Sharpsville, passed away at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, after an extended illness. He was 85.

Mr. Henning was born Monday, July 7, 1924, in Farrell to John and Sophia Zinz Henning.

An alumnus of Farrell High School, he worked in the shipping department at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., retiring in the early 1980s.

Harold served in the Army as a tech sergeant in World War II.

He was a member for 61 years of First Presbyterian Church, Sharpsville; belonged to American Legion Post 299, Sharon; and was a former member of Fraternal Order of Police, also Sharon.

Harold was an avid golfer, enjoyed bowling, playing euchre and polka music and loved going to casinos. He enjoyed the many good times spent with family and friends and all the events to which they took him; and Friday fish fry dinners with his best buddy, Hank, as well as dear friends Arlene and Lou.

Harold was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, a high school and college football fan, and a college basketball fan, with his favorite team being the Duke Blue Devils.

He loved life to the fullest.

His wife, the former Eleanor E. Marstellar, whom he married Oct. 17, 1953, passed away April 16, 1998.

Surviving are: a daughter, Heather L. and her husband Ronald Abbott, Sharpsville; and two grandchildren, Fred E. Abbott II; and Ashley E. and her husband Michael Burt.

Besides his wife, Harold was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Walter, William, Edward and Robert Henning, and an infant; and six sisters, Matilda “Tillie” Smith, Margaret “Peg” Wilson, Elsie Madura, Adele Roth, Selma Popadak and Eileen M. Shank.

Memorial contributions may be made to Juniper Village at the Shenango Inn, 1330 Kimberly Road, Sharon, PA 16146; or the Dialysis Clinic Inc. (Hermitage-Shenango), 737 Brookshire Drive, Hermitage, PA 16148.
