Marcus A George

Student played guitar in Wesleyan worship team

---- — A funeral service will be held Tuesday for Marcus A. George of 3878 Holly Lane, Hermitage, formerly of Stoneboro. He died at 5:22 p.m. Thursday (4-29-10) in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a long, courageous battle with leukemia. He was 26.

Mr. George was born March 26, 1984, in McKeesport, Pa., to Francis E. and Kathleen A. Burkett George.

He was a 2002 graduate of Lakeview High School and was one semester away from graduating with a degree in special education from Southern Wesleyan University of South Carolina. While there he worked at its daycare.

As an active member of Sandy Lake Wesleyan Church, Marcus was very involved in the youth ministry and was a member of the worship team, playing the guitar. He had a very strong faith and had traveled on a mission trip to Haiti, where he always had hoped to someday return.

Marcus loved his family and friends.

He is survived by: his mother and father, Kathleen and William F. Coughenour, Hermitage; his maternal grandmother, Nellie Burkett, Hermitage; two sisters, Jennifer McComb and her husband Rich, Stoneboro; and Jacqueline George and her fiancé Joshua Alderson, Grove City; two brothers, Thomas A. George and his wife Christina, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Justin M. George, Las Vegas, Nev.; a stepsister, Destinee Cahoon and her husband Ben, Cambridge, Ohio; and a stepbrother, William O. Coughenour, Cranberry Township, Butler County.

Also surviving are four nephews, Jesse McComb; Collin and Raymond George; and Aiden Cahoon; and two nieces, Savannah George and Zoey Cahoon.

He also leaves two special friends, Matt Irvine and Nathan Alexander.

He was preceded in death by his father, Francis E. George; his maternal grandfather, Raymond C. Burkett Jr.; and his paternal grandparents, William S. and Jean Coughenour.

Marcus’s passion and dream was to see a complex for the youth of the area that would provide a safe haven where kids could socialize and spend quality time being mentored by positive role models. In helping to make to make his dream come true, the family requests those wanting to make an expression of sympathy, to please do so by a memorial contribution in Marcus’s name to Sandy Lake Wesleyan Church, designated for the Living Hope Memorial Fund, Box 275, Sandy Lake, PA 16145.
