Mary Josephine ‘Jo’ Conti

St. Bart’s member was Sharpsville homemaker

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday for Mary Josephine “Jo” Conti, 52 S. Mercer Ave., Sharpsville. She passed away at 2:55 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a brief illness. She was 90.

Mrs. Conti was born Tuesday, Dec. 11, 1917, in Sharpsville to Joseph and Modesta Busicchio Sabella.

A lifelong area resident, she attended Sharpsville schools.

Jo was a lifelong member of St. Bartholomew’s Church in Sharpsville.

A homemaker, through the years she enjoyed sewing, ceramics, word search puzzles and, especially, baking multitudes of cookies that she generously gave away. Jo was a gracious hostess and a very giving person.

Her husband, Sebastian J. Conti, whom she married June 24, 1937, survives in Hermitage.

Also surviving are: a son, Joseph Conti and his wife Norma, Warren, Ohio; a sister, Philomena Novicky, Hermitage; two granddaughters, Claudia and her husband Tim Smith, Mesa, Ariz.; and Kelly and her husband Chris Donadio, Warren, Ohio; a grandson, Shawn Gaydos and his wife Cathy, Scottsdale, Ariz.; her great-grandchildren, Michael Klevos and his wife Robin, Scottsdale; and Olivia, Angelo, Claire and Marina Donadio, all Warren; and a great-great-granddaughter, Sierra Klevos, Scottsdale.

Also surviving are a beloved extended family of brother-and sisters-in-law. She was the loving “Aunt Jo” to many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Janette Conti; three brothers, James, Anthony and Joseph Sabella; and a sister, Eleanor Palombi.

Calling hours: 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday (8-7-08) in STEPHEN J. SHERMAN FUNERAL HOME, 2201 Highland Road, Hermitage.

Service: Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Friday (8-8-08) in St. Bartholomew’s Church, Sharpsville, with the Rev. Richard Gula, deceased’s nephew, and the Rev. Matthew J. Kujawinski, church pastor, as concelebrants.

Entombment: St. Rose Cemetery Mausoleum, Hermitage.
