John Butchko

Wean plant retiree was Vo-Tech volunteer teacher

WARREN, Ohio — John Butchko of Warren died at 1 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, in the home of his daughter. He was 97.

Mr. Butchko was born July 31, 1912, in Lamberton, Pa., a son of John and Mary Komar Butchko.

John was a 1931 graduate of Farrell High School and retired after 30 years of service from the former Wean Manufacturing, Warren, where he was a welder.

He was a member of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, Warren.

Following retirement, John was a volunteer teacher of welding at Trumbull County Joint Vocational School for 25 years, receiving many volunteering awards, including a national award.

He enjoyed bowling, woodworking and farming, and was an avid sports fan.

His wife, the former Grace Louise Hewitt, whom he married Aug. 21, 1935, preceded him in death Nov. 2, 2006.

Survivors include: his daughter, Grace Stefancin, Warren; three grandsons, Carl Cvetkovich and his wife Diedra, Medina, Ohio; Brian Stefancin, Newton Falls, Ohio; and J.J. Stefancin and his wife Jennifer, Greenville, S.C.; and five great-grandchildren, Andrew, Natalie and Olivia Cvetkovich; and Evan and Jas Stefancin.

Besides his wife, Mr. Butchko was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Gloria Cvetkovich; a grandson, Timothy Jay Cvetkovich; a sister, Florence Hazuda; and his son-in-law, James Stefancin.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice, 5000 E. Market St., Suite 19, Warren, OH 44485.
