William “Bill” A. Clowes of Sharpsville, passed away peacefully at 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, in UPMC Montefiore, Pittsburgh, after an extended illness. He was 76.
Mr. Clowes was born July 26, 1933, in Sarver, a son of William and Delvis Ann Barnes Clowes.
He was educated in Winfield Township schools, Butler County.
A lifelong truck driver, Bill was employed by Freeport (Pa.) Transport Inc. and previously worked for several trucking firms including Countrybelle, Sells and Martin, and Interstate Motor Freight, for which he drove for 16 years.
A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Clowes was a member of American Legion Post 162, Sharpsville. He also belonged to Teamsters Local 261, New Castle; and Shenango River Watchers.
A member of Christ Lutheran Church in Sharon, Bill delivered and helped in the kitchen for its Meals-on-Wheels program, a labor to which he was faithful and truly loved.
He enjoyed fishing.
His wife, the former Alice Jean Darling, whom he married Feb. 18, 1956, survives at home.
Also surviving are: three sons, Edward A. Clowes and his fiancée Trish Nardella, Sharon; Donald E. Clowes and his wife Jodi, Youngstown; and James W. Clowes and his wife Mary Burwell, Hermitage; two sisters, Eleanor and her husband Wayne Bowser, Oil City; and Yvonne Christy, Lower Burrell, Pa.; and a brother, Richard A. Clowes, Sarver.
He also leaves six grandchildren, Cecilia Clowes, Kenneth Clowes, Corrine Kuzmanko, Nicholas Clowes, ElizaBeth Clowes and Tiffany Burwell; and two great-grandsons, Ethan Ray and Bailey Holmes.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Clowes.
