---- — A memorial service will be held May 21 for Shirley S. Swartz Abernathy of 155 Smith Ave., Sharon. She passed away peacefully at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, April 29, 2010, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, after a brief illness. She was 84.

Mrs. Abernathy was born April 12, 1926, in Sharon to Ralph and Rosanna Roberts Swartz.

She was a 1944 graduate of Sharon High School.

Shirley was a homemaker but, prior to her marriage, worked at the former Merchant and Manufacturers Bank in Sharon.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sharon.

Shirley enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with her family, especially around holidays.

Her husband, Jack E. Abernathy, whom she married Feb. 26, 1955, passed away Dec. 7, 2000.

Surviving are: a daughter, Laurie A. and her husband Dana Martin, Woolrich, Maine; a son, Todd E. Abernathy and his wife Linda, Phoenix; a grandson, Jack Martin; a granddaughter, Amanda Turner; and three great-grandchildren.
