Pardoe homemaker was beauty queen, school aide

---- — Mary Frances Reiser, a resident since 1938 of Hartwick Road, the Village of Pardoe, passed away at 11:18 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2010, Grove Manor, Grove City, after a lengthy illness. She was 91.

Mrs. Reiser was born Dec. 11, 1918, in Pittsburgh to William and Alma Gill Dummett.

She was a homemaker and she worked in the cafeteria of West Elementary School, Mercer.

Mary was a member of St. Hermengilde’s Catholic Church, Pardoe.

She was the Fig Queen for Mercer Chamber of Commerce in 1936 and was captain of the Girls Basketball and Gymnastics Teams at Mercer High School.

Mary was active in the Village of Pardoe civic events. During the summer of 1937, she was voted the “Prettiest Girl in the Ballroom” in the Stoneboro Dance Hall by The Kay Kyser Band.

Mary enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Her husband, George E. “Luke” Reiser, whom she married Jan. 8, 1938, passed away July 4, 1995.

Surviving are: four children, Sandra Lee McCurdy, Collins, Ohio; Melissa MacDonald and her husband Charles, Gettysburg, Pa.; Ronald G. Reiser, Alexandria, Va.; and Tod D. Reiser and his wife Andrea, Village of Pardoe; a sister, Helen Barrett, El Paso, Texas; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Martha Porsche; and three brothers, Bill, Harry and Thomas Dummett.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to Grove Manor’s Activities Fund, 435 N. Broad St., Grove City, PA 16127.
