Linda Joyce Spires

Farrell native was charity founder, church secretary

BOARDMAN, Ohio — At 8 a.m. Sunday morning, Oct. 11, 2009, our Heavenly Father cast his eternal light onto the residence of Linda Joyce Spires, Boardman, and beckoned her home. She was 67.

Mrs. Spires was born Aug. 18, 1942, in Farrell, a daughter of Robinson and Eula Mae McPhaul Ford.

She graduated from Farrell High School and, in 1966, received her degree in business administration from Youngstown State University.

Mrs. Spires was formerly employed as a secretary with the Youngstown Urban League and later at St. Andrewes African Methodist Episcopal Church, Youngstown, where she was a church secretary for more than 30 years.

She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and a founding member of Women Hand In Hand Inc., a charitable organization based in Youngstown.

As a member of St. Andrewes, Linda served on the stewardess board and dedicated her talents to the free lunch program.

She found joy in traveling, cooking, reading and spending time with her family and friends. She was a devoted wife and mother who will be deeply missed by those who knew her.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving and devoted husband of 41 years, Donald Spires, whom she married Dec. 21, 1968; her loving sons, Donald Spires, San Diego; and David Spires, Boardman, Ohio; two sisters, Beatrice Ford and Shirley Riley, both Wheatland; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

She was greeted in heaven by her parents and two brothers, Thomas Ford and Robinson Ford Jr.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Women Hand In Hand Inc., 1290 Stonington Drive, Youngstown, OH 44505.
