David R. Rapp

Honored vet was in Navy, Army, worked in GC

CLINTONVILLE — David R. Rapp of Clintonville, Venango County, died at 7:05 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, in his home. He was 80.

Born Feb. 23, 1929, Mr. Rapp was a son of George and Ethel White Rapp of Pittsburgh.

Mr. Rapp joined the Navy in April 1946 at the age of 17. He served two years and received a Victory Medal with an honorable discharge. In January 1949, he enlisted in the Army, achieving the rank of sergeant in August 1951. David served five years in the Army, including a tour of duty in Korea, and received five Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal, an Occupational Medal Japan and an honorable discharge from the Army.

David and his wife, the former Patricia Ann Fabrizi of Penn Hills, Pa., whom he married Jan. 21, 1954, moved to their first farm in Clinton Township, Venango County, where they resided for 44 years. After moving to Clinton Township, Venango County, Mr. Rapp worked for Meadow Dairy of Grove City. He also was employed at the former Cooper Bessemer in Grove City, and was later employed at Culligan in Rocky Grove, Venango County.

Mr. Rapp served as commander of American Legion Post 852 in Harrisville from 1981-82, and was past president of the Clintonville Lions Club.

The Rapps served as a home sponsor for World War II Veterans at their home for 34 years. They also were past assistant 4-H leaders in Venango County.

Mr. Rapp’s hobbies included baking, cooking, crossword puzzles and spending time with his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A loving husband and devoted Christian, Mr. Rapp is survived by: his wife, Patricia Rapp; a son, Christopher Rapp, Export, Pa.; a daughter, Anna Marie McDowell; and granddaughters, Franchesca Rapp and Kathryn Ann McDowell, all Grove City; as well as sisters Alice Gledhill, Penn Hills; and Ruth Ann Summers, Rialto, Calif.; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mr. Rapp is preceded in death by his parents and George Rapp Jr.
