Franz J. Fellner

Sharon Steel retiree was born in Austria

---- — A Mass of Christian burial is Thursday for Franz J. Fellner of 486 S. Mercer Ave., Sharpsville. He passed away at 6:55 a.m. Monday (4-26-10) in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was 84.

Mr. Fellner was born Feb. 10, 1926, in Austria, a son of Joseph and Maria Fellner Krenn.

He attended schools in Austria and immigrated to the United States.

Franz worked at the former Sharon Steel Corp.’s Farrell plant as a manipulator and retired in 1988 with more than 30 years of service.

He was a member of St. Anthony’s Church and the Apollo-Maenerchor Club, both Sharon.

Before immigrating to the United States, he served with the German Army in Europe.

His first wife, the former Rosalia Springmann, whom he married in July 1950, passed away Dec. 28, 1989.    

He is survived by: his second wife, the former Ludmilla Steckler Turuck, whom he married Feb. 10, 1990; two daughters, Rosmarie Thomas and her husband Mike, Alabama; and Barbara Fellner, Youngstown; two sons, Frank Fellner and his wife Rhonda, Austin, Texas; and Walter Fellner, Hermitage; a stepdaughter, Katherina Lyden and her husband Timothy; and stepson, Walter Turuck and his wife Rose, Hermitage; four sisters, Maria Muralter, Steffani Godl, Brigite Putzer and Hermina Hostettler, all Europe; and seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter and great-granddaughter; and five brothers and sisters in Austria.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Service: Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Thursday (4-29-10) in St. Anthony’s Church, Sharon, with the Rev. Daniel J. Kresinski, pastor, as celebrant. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:25 a.m. for the church.

Interment: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Hermitage.
